work work...or not?

It's been I don't know... 6 or 7 months since my arrival to Denmark and I think a lot has changed since that moment. From a complete hopelessness after my first month to me, laughing about this school every day more and more. I'm not trying to throw shade on my school. Maybe it's my fault or maybe the fault of czech education that makes you feel like you always have to sit at school, read text books all the time and have so many exams that it drives you crazy... well that's what I heard when I came back home last month and met my ex-classmates who stayed in Prague.

Meanwhile I could go on holidays for almost a month (during which we just had 3 classes...I know, so much!)  and basically didn't miss out on much. We are told that this is because we're supposed to work outside of school and gain knowledge on our own.. but what exactly should that be?!

Now that my first year is almost over, I'm thinking about doing my BA top up somewhere else, take a gap year, change my life a little again. Which is healthy right?

I don't regret coming here and choosing this uni. Just my motivation went from 100 to like... 20 percent... which is scary since this school was supposed to make my "life decisions" easier...

Other than that big project is coming, I'm still trash diving and we are supposed to volunteer at a music festival in Aarhus in June (exciteeeed).

food waste

Ever since I came here, I was eager to try trash diving at least once during my studies here in Denmark. If I told this to my friends back in Prague, they would just give me disgusted looks and I would be the weird girl who sneaks out in the middle of the night just to get some free food. I have read many articles and forums and learned about the unwritten rules of trash divers, took silicone gloves that we have in our dorms for cleaning and went with my friend C. on a mission.

I felt weird, I'm not going to lie but when we reached the containers and met fellow students from our uni who helped us a little bit was fun after all. The other supermarket has just emptied the container so the packs of pasta that were lying on the bottom were impossible to reach...too bad. But anyway...we ended up with many goodies; bananas, avocados, bread. I didn't take much, because I know that some people need it more than me.  Yet I think I will definitely try it again because it's food! Perfectly good food for free.

So if you're in DK or any other country where it's possible to try trash diving give it a go and you won't regret :).

All my prayers to Paris.

unfriended

Yesterday I came across a situation that probably everyone with social media experienced; someone unfriended you. It's a thing that happens in real life as well, people just stop talking to you for whatever reason... but facebook makes it painfully visual. Suddenly you're unable to talk to someone you used to call your friend or at least that happened to me.

I had this friend...well if you can call it like that... It was a friend I never met but we used to talk a lot, we skyped few times, we shared our problems and mutual music taste. It was nice to have a friend like that, since I "met" him during my last year of high school and I didn't really feel like I had many friends back then. It was the time when I realised I might have been surrounded by my classmates every day, and I considered them as friends, but then we finished high school and I barely talked to them.

So since December we were talking basically every day. Of course I saw it only as a friendship because I was dating other guys but he never seemed like it was a problem; why would it be? We lived so far from each other. But then March happened and I met my boyfriend. We started dating, I tried to spend as much time with him as I could, I managed to graduate and even to be accepted to university. Meanwhile I was of course talking to my friend; not so often as before which I think started this alienation.

I don't think I'm that type of person who has to mention their other half in every conversation. I try not to do it, since I always hated when people were like that. But I did mention him sometimes to my friend, just because I felt he could understand some problems we had. Our conversations went from often to occasional and then... nothing. I tried to talk to him again back in September because I moved here and I felt like an old friend could help me survive this "shock" from moving away. But it was a short conversation, cut out by him, so I never tried again.

And yesterday I was browsing on facebook and I noticed that I haven't seen his posts for a while. So I checked his profile and it said: add as friend.

I messaged him after in a text, but I was told that I am basically a bad person because I was throwing my relationship in his face and he felt like I was playing with his feelings.

Well...clearly I don't understand men. And I'm sorry.

Have a nice weekend.

the perks of living alone?

Soon I can celebrate? my two months here in DK, yet I'm still wondering if I'm happier than I was in Prague. My posts may sound like I'm complaining and I hate it here so much, but I'm actually quite satisfied, happy in a way...But what I struggle with the most and most people who moved out from their parents know this for sure: living on your own.

I am still dependant on my parents of course. I don't have a job here (yet) and even if I'm trying to live an inexpensive life (which in Denmark means "normal" life in CZ), I still kind of struggle in terms of how much I can spend on this and that and so on. My parents are supportive and my mum of course wants me to eat, so if I start talking about how everything is expensive, she just shuts me down with: buy it and don't worry about it.

Another thing that I started hating the most is doing groceries. It takes me ages to get out of my room and go shopping even though my stomach is screaming for food. Especially when I'm a little sick or on my period, I tend to just stay in bed and wish I had someone to do my groceries for me- oh I miss my mum.

And when it comes to being sick- who will take care of me? I was used to live in a family full of doctors and nurses so I was always taken care of. Especially when I have tonsillitis every year and I suffer quite a lot. Who will make me chicken broth and make me tea? Nobody. Maybe it's a motivation to stay healthy and eat a lot of vitamin C!

But it all has it's perks. As a person who wants their own space- I have it now and that makes me happy. I learned to cook proper meals, I know how to wash my clothes (not that I didn't know that before but... now it's perfect), I have my own daily regime and I can manage my time better.

Of course I'm not planning to live alone for the rest of my life. Sharing a place to live is definitely better and you can avoid these hopeless moments when you feel like shit but you still need to get things done. Like me, right now, struggling to get on my bike and go to buy some goodies to Lidl.

have a nice weekend.

distance

Since I'm waiting at Geneva airport at the moment, quite bored and really lonely, it's time for another post. My autumn holidays started last Friday after a horrible school trip. Why horrible? Well, it could have been amazing I'm sure and many people were excited to go, me on the other hand...not so much. The theme of the trip was teambuilding. Danes are used to work in teams all the time, practically since kindergarten so they wanted us, international students, to experience that in a holiday resort not far away from Herning.

The activities made me feel like I'm at a summer camp again; building a catapult in a pouring rain, walking blindfolded in a forrest and the best part making a raft out of wood and barrels that was supposed to take us to the middle of a lake and back. I'm not a person who enjoys this and when 7 members of our 9-member-group decided to boycott the whole programme and went to the swimming pool instead, I was even more pissed off since I paid horrifying 115,- euros for just 2 days...

Well everything horrible ends with things that are a bit more enjoyable I guess. In my case it was waking up at 5am on Sunday and going to visit Lyon after two months. Thanks to fucking German Wings they made my short trip even shorter by changing the date of my flight back to Friday instead of Saturday. But I enjoyed it. Well...mostly the time spent with my boyfriend. I don't know why but France makes me feel like an alien. People can speak English but after a while they kind of stop trying and rather have a conversation in French. But that's just a part of me being in love with a French guy. I guess I really need to learn more than "bonjour".

Now my trip is over. I will spend a night in Hamburg and try to explore it a little during the morning and then back to Herning again. At least I finally received my CPR and I can start looking for some job and stop being stressed about getting sick without a health insurance. Thanks god for free health care.

Have a nice weekend!

first month... really?

Wow, I survived a month in this place already? Well, it's actually not that surprising. I mean..I'm still struggling with this big plot twist in my life, getting used to this depressing weather and the incredibly high prices. But I'm still here, still alive and I might even say it's getting better and better.

You already know what my struggles were two weeks ago. My first project seemed like a disaster and thanks to me (yes, I am a bit selfish, whatever) it went pretty well. We got a grade 10, which is like the second best grade of the weird danish grading system. So I'm satisfied for now.

School is getting more interesting and the time passes by quickly. So far we had design classes (which really creative- I love it!) and technology (basically how clothes are made). It might seem strange that I enjoy subjects that are more creative because when I'm supposed to draw something it looks like a creation of a 5-year-old child. But thankfully we can also express our "creativity"in a different way- thank god for Photoshop- my bff during my studies.

I started danish lessons. Oh wow, it is challenging but I like it. Actually I like it a lot even though it's a weird language with even weirder pronunciation. But well...it's for free and I would really like to understand at least a little and not feel so alienated.

Now I'm working on a new project, our team-building trip is coming and after all of that I will actually have holidays. I'm going to France and it's like the best thing of the upcoming month.

when my boyfriend's friends ask me to speak French

when we finished the project and I didn't have to work with my group anymore

what are foreign students really doing all the time...

blah blah.

Two weeks have passed and I'm surprisingly still here in Herning. First weeks of uni were kind of weird. I guess for me it's still a "getting used to live by myself" period. I managed to loose my credit card before the school even started (it was a good idea to bring some cash with me) so I had to wait for almost 2 weeks to get a new one (brilliant).

I bought a bike and now I'm only having problems with it (second hand bikes ftw). I managed to get a  flat tire today so you can imagine my excitement when I will be paying for the repair. That means soon I will be poor and even more poor, eating pasta all week...yay.

Group work, group work, group work. By the time I will finish my studies here I will hate those two words. Why? So far it has been a disaster... To be honest, I thought it's going to be a problem since it was always a problem at my previous school. If you're in a group with people who work on a different level or put a different amount of time in the project, you are screwed. Why? Because
a) you will do the entire thing for them (without them even saying thank you)
b) you will have the same attitude and end up with a terrible project- yaay!

I don't want to talk shit about someone on my blog. I guess we all now how it is so let's leave it like that.

The project we're currently working on is called "Discovery Project". 4 contemporary designers (furniture or fashion) and their design DNA (which I still completely don't understand, but never mind). It's fun I guess... but working with my group is the biggest nerve wracking challenge I've ever experienced. I designed the written part of the project, combining black and white pictures, nice blue colour and an amazing recycled paper. It looks pretty good and I'm happy with it. And it's the only thing that makes me at least a bit happier while struggling with the rest. Well, it's almost finished and then we will hopefully do something more fulfilling.

I could complain about my life more... and I could always tell myself, hey...let's pack my things and go home..go back to Prague and start uni there. But I'm not. This is what I wanted...This is how it's going to be.
